Q: Why setup this website?
A: So club members, who do middle distance and cross country events, can obtain photos/videos of themselves participating in the various events. We hope that you think that this is a worthwhile thing. Please let us know what you think - even if it is negative!
Q: Why is this website not part of the main St Albans Athletics Club Website?
A: True, it could be, however as this website is primarily for the photos/videos taken at the middle distance and cross country events, then it was easier just have a website focus on that only.
Q: Why are you charging for the photos/videos?
A: True, we could just make them free, however as there is some effort involved in taking photos/videos, putting them on the website and maintaining the website it is good to get something in return for that. Not that we are getting the money but it will go directly towards club activities. If you would like to know specifically where the money is going to be/or is being used then ask us the question - go to "Contact Us". The prices charged for the photos/videos are suggestions only, and are set to be a balance between free and overcharging. As the money for the photos/videos is going straight to the Club's activities we hope that members will be honest with the contributions made.
Q: Why not use online purchasing? eg. using Paypal?
A: Yes, we could, but that is a bit unnecessary!
Q: Why use Picasa to host the photos and YouTube to view the videos?
A: We have used Picasa as it is an excellent photo manager and allows full resolution photos to be downloaded easily. There are other options, but they were generally more complex or inferior. We used YouTube for the video viewer mostly as it is the viewing medium that everyone can easily use.
Q: What about the security aspects of the photos and videos?
A: This is a key question and one that is very important. Firstly we ensure that no names are included on the website or links. Secondly the only people who know about this website is you, the club members. For the link to the photos on Picasa it is a randomly generated link (by Picasa) and does not have any meaningful information in the web address. The photos on Picasa are also unlisted and therefore no-one can search for the photos. For the Video viewing on YouTube, the video is public as the YouTube does not have an unlisted option. It does have a Private access option, however you have to tell it the user names who want access (max of 25 names) - so not appropriate. Also, the video on YouTube cannot be downloaded. For the video download link this only known to the link in this website and cannot be searched for.
Q: I have some photos (or videos) which I would like to include so other club members can view and/or download?A: If you do have some photos to include on the webite then you can submit them using this link (make sure they are full resolution) or for more details refer "Submit Photos" on the side menu.
